POSI+IVO

Posi+ivo was created to target mainly young people and create awareness about the worldwide issue of STDs, which does not discriminate between race, ethnicity, gender or nationality. More than 2,800 condoms were placed on a 22" x 90" inches canvas. The black condoms, which surround the word positivo, represent death and the negative aspects of this issue. The red condoms, which spell the word positivo, represent love, help, blood and the positive aspect of the problem.

We decided to create this piece with the word Posi+ivo to capture, first, the positivism of all young people regardless of their backgrounds. Second, condoms reflect safety or the lack of it. Posi+ivo can be seen from two different perspectives, either a positive attitude towards a sexually active life; where people are aware of the risks of unsafe sex. Also, this piece can reflect the result of a positive test, where, even though a person has become infected with an STD, they still keep a positive attitude towards life.

Exhibitions: This project was created to be showcased in the traveling exhibit MTV Teen Age Clicks which explores the behavior and habits of today’s youth. The exhibition visited 4 countries (México, Argentina, Brazil, USA).
